Bound for Sound, Issue #178, Martin DeWulf, June 2007, Review: "I liked this preamp enough to purchase it... It's a music lover's companion as it is able to express the finer, the more subtle aspects of a performance, without resorting to proven audio gimmickry. It took an industry outsider of sorts to put into place a different set of sonic priorities, one that got us closer to the music and away from the bottom line."

Welcome to SAS Audio Labs. SAS Audio believes the listening experience is the most important goal. With over 48 years of experience with tubes, 28 years in audio, and 11 years in business, rest assured of hand crafted, reference quality sound, with total reliability. There are three reasons the much more expensive competitors cannot match the 11A; unique Design, Parts, and utilizing multi method listening/auditioning tests (took years to develop).

I test each part to ensure the upmost sonic quality from each part. My designs are unique which means I work from the ground up, not simply copying another's design. Lastly, I use multimethod audition tests (not simply "voicing") to ensure the final product is as close to perfect sounding as possible.

Typical "voicing" means the component is system dependent. For a simple example, if the system is bright, then the test preamplifier will need to be full in order to somewhat, though not perfectly, compensate. However, my methods (took years to develop) eliminate the system from the equation, so I can obtain a clear, transparent preamplifier (and ICs). These are the only components one can test this way.

By using a truly transparent preamplifier and ICs, one needs to match fewer components for the sound/synergy one enjoys. The fewer the problems, the more lively the music.

What do reviewers and auditioners/customers have to say?

Martin DeWulf stated in Issue #163, Feb 2005:
"Whereas some preamps come off as accurate and competent, the 10A has an uncanny way of expressing the emotions of a performance in terms that other preamps simply can't." (The 11A is even better.)

"No, this unit has the special ability to lay bare the inner detailing and expression of a song like few others."

9-08-07: A group auditon took place including the 11A, BBBB, 9.0 SWLP:
("It's a full monty SWLP 9.0 SE with tube rectified PS, Black Gates on PS, Silver Bybees on the output and proprietary teflon coupling cap upgrade. I use the Black Sand Ref silver mk 5 on the PS.")
